Think Aloud Critical Incidents- Participant #1

Task #1

+User is able to achieve the goal after fairly quickly noticing the “Contact” button

“Galina… I’m guessing that is some sort of teacher… not immediately obvious where to go…”

“Oh! Contact info.! I found it!”

Task #2

-User articulates goal and eventually achieves it, but has to guess a lot to find the right page

“Hopefully Judah is here on the “Contact” page… no, he’s not here…”

“Going to click on “About Us”…?”

(users finds “Faculty” link on the submenu)

“What a lovely picture!”

Task #3

+User is able to quickly and easily find the list of courses

-User attempts to go back to the Home page, but has trouble figuring out how to do it

Task #4

+User is able to quickly and easily find a news article

“Nothing obvious about news… oh, here on the bottom…”

“Oh, something opened!” (as the article opens in a new browser tab)

Task #5

-User articulates goal but is not able to achieve it because s/he notices the site hasn’t been updated

“Oh dear, P&E is an option… so I’ll click on that.”

(user clicks on the Feb 2013 event link)

“This hasn’t been updated, so I don’t know when the next one is.”

Task #6

-User articulates goal and eventually achieves it, but uses a roundabout and frustrating method to do so- uses search before navigation links

“I’m searching around (on the Home page), can’t seem to find anything about internships…”

“I’m gonna type in the search bar…”

(a search for “internships sites” returns no results)

“Fantastic!”

(goes back to the Home page)

“I don’t think I’m being dense. It doesn’t seem obvious.”

“Pictures, but no list. Doesn’t say any specifics.”

“I’ll check in Grad too… nothing.”

Comments

“Rubbish, outdated, not modern.”

“There is so much available that isn’t on the site.”

“Probably will follow the twitter now that I see it.”
